Royal Rumble Set to Rock Tropicana Field with WWE’s Thrilling Return in january 2024
During the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, Tampa’s Tropicana Field served as the virtual home for WWE ThunderDome, entertaining fans remotely. Now, a new chapter unfolds at the Tampa Bay Rays’ stadium, where a thrilling Royal Rumble with a live audience is set to take place.
WWE made the exciting announcement, designating Tropicana Field as the venue for the 2024 Royal Rumble, just a day after finalizing Endeavor’s majority stake purchase in the company.
Tampa Bay Rays President, Matt Silverman, expressed his enthusiasm, saying, “We are thrilled to welcome WWE back to Tropicana Field for the 2024 Royal Rumble. This event promises top-notch sports entertainment for those witnessing it firsthand and the global television audience. It’s an opportunity for visitors from around the world to discover the charm of our region and everything it has to offer.”
Notably, Raymond James Stadium in Tampa hosted WrestleMania 37 in April 2021, marking a triumphant return to in-person events since the pandemic’s onset.
WWE is currently experiencing substantial growth in both its business and creative realms. The previous year’s Royal Rumble stands as the highest-grossing event of its kind in company history, amassing a remarkable $7.7 million in gate revenue.
These financial gains become even more significant as WWE embarks on a new venture, joining forces with the TKO Holdings Group alongside UFC. Endeavor’s acquisition of a majority stake in WWE valued the company at an impressive $9.3 billion, and the partnership with TKO and UFC establishes a formidable $21 billion undertaking.
As a testament to this success, TKO’s shares opened on the New York Stock Exchange at $102 after the deal’s closure, marking a 2.4 percent increase on their first day of trading.
